HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 12, 2024) – The summer is in full swing along the Lakeshore, and that means the waters of Lake Michigan and the tributaries that flow into that Great Lake will be filled with those wanting to enjoy them.
Ottawa County Sheriff Sergeant Jon Knott, head of his department’s Marine Unit, and his colleagues were busy last weekend with the annual “Operation Dry Water” drunken boating enforcement initiative, but for the most part, those pulled over while piloting vessels of all shapes and sizes were not inebriated.
What is of more concern to Knott is the general lack of boating safety education.
Such a class is set for next Wednesday and Thursday, July 17th and 18th, at the Saugatuck Yacht Club (15 Park St.), taught by Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Todd Wagner, head of his department’s Marine Unit. Space is limited, and a link to register is here.
