HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 12, 2024) – When you’re dealing with a building that is 110 years old, repairs are a necessary fact of life.
On Thursday, the Michigan Strategic Fund announced that the City of Holland will receive a grant to help pay for roof maintenance at the Holland Museum. The undisclosed amount through the State Historic Preservation Office will help pay for sealing up leaks that are evident when rain comes to the Tulip City, as well as securing the shell of the former Holland Post Office that was built in 1914 and is currently owned by the city.
This is all part of an overall renovation project that will cost at least $654,000, and could run into seven figures when it is completed by next year at the latest. While work is being done, the museum will remain open, according to Development and Communications Associate Director Kate Leighton-Colburn.
Holland is one of seven Michigan communities sharing in $250,000 from the federal Historic Preservation Fund’s Certified Local Government program.
