ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 11, 2024) – The water in all of the city of Allegan is safe to drink again.
The city’s Water Utilities Department lifted a boil water advisory on Thursday afternoon for those living and/or working in an area bounded by Bond Street, 4th Street, 5th Street, 6th Street, Marshall Street and Herkimer Street. A water main break reported on Tuesday afternoon was the reason for the advisory, causing a loss of pressure that may have led to contamination of drinking water.
While repairs took only a day to complete, the advisory lasted until tests of bacteriological samples of the water came back meeting state drinking water standards, a process that takes about 24 hours.
