FRANKFURT (Reuters) – The German government and mobile phone carriers have agreed in principle to reduce the use of components from Chinese technology groups in the nation’s 5G wireless network, a group of German media outlets reported on Wednesday.
Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefonica Deutschland have agreed with German government officials that the nation’s core network of 5G data centres should be free of technology made by companies such as Huawei and ZTE in 2026, newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung as well as broadcasters NDR and WDR said in a joint report.
The German interior ministry and the government were not immediately available for comment.
