UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, July 4, 2024) – Looking for fireworks shows to celebrate the Independence Day holiday?
While perhaps the largest show in West Michigan isn’t until Saturday evening in Grand Rapids over Ah-Nab-Awen Park, the explosives went off on Wednesday night over Allegan, Green Lake near Wayland, and South Haven. The actual July 4 municipal holiday presentations are over Lake Macatawa in Holland, as well as Allendale, Grand Haven, Grandville, and Hopkins. On Friday, Saugatuck/Douglas has its fireworks over Kalamazoo Lake, and joining the Calder City in waiting until Saturday to shoot off the explosives are Dorr and Gun Lake.
Most of these communities have activities slated ahead of the fireworks show.
As for residential fireworks, state law allows the shooting off of minor-grade explosives from 11 AM to 11:45 PM on Thursday and Friday evening, with local municipalities establishing their own modifications. Check with your local community office as to such standards ahead of time.
