HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 28, 2024) – A point made during a recent “Talk of the Town” segment drew the ire of one social media follower.
The comment about political “mischief” in the upcoming August 6 Primary Election, in which partisans of one party would cross over to vote for perceived weaker candidates from the opposite party in order to strengthen their own candidate in the November General Election, drew this response:
“I am offended by the “mischievous” comment this morning regarding a Democrat, Independent, etc. voting on the Republican side of the primary ballot. In Michigan, we have an open primary. Voters have a right to choose. In Republican Ottawa County, the primary is often when local decisions are made. I have a right to vote for the person that I think will best serve our community. There is no mischief in voting.”
The respondent was mistaken in the belief that, in Michigan, there is an open primary, as Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck explained.
Absentee ballots were mailed out this past week ahead of the Primary Election.
