ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 27, 2024) – Water quality in Allegan County is something that leaders are taking seriously.
Recently, the county board retained engineering consultants Hydrosimulatics and Williams and Works to study the quantity and quality of underground aquifers.
That report was received earlier this month, showing that, with an anticipated population growth by 12 percent between now and the year 2050, the need for fresh water should increase at least by that same amount if not more.
The consultants recommended to commissioner Dean Kapenga of Hamilton and his colleagues that the county install a series of semi-permanent monitoring wells in strategic locations, as more and more private wells are being drilled.
Seven of these monitoring wells have already been installed, with nine more planned.
