H. Gordon VanDerMeulen, 91, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Gordon was born October 8, 1932, in Zeeland, Michigan, to Steven and Elizabeth VanDerMeulen. He graduated from Zeeland High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6 in Holland. Gord married Gladys Bouwman and they raised their children in Holland. He was a member of Faith Reformed Church. Gord worked as a furniture finisher for Baker Furniture for forty years. He founded VanDerMeulen Fine Finishers in 1988 and kept working for several years following. His beloved wife of 70 years, Gladys, preceded him in death in October of 2023.
He is survived by his sons: Rick and Mary VanDerMeulen, Dr. Douglas and Kathy VanDerMeulen, Scot and Mary VanDerMeulen; grandchildren Beth & Jeff Maat, Alicia & Scott De Graaf, Dr. Matthew & Lacey VanDerMeulen, Amy & Benjamin Smith, Michael & Kirsten VanDerMeulen, Katelyn & Joel Meyers, Lisa & Mark Tanis; 19 great-grandchildren, brother Bruce & Mary VanDerMeulen, sisters: Ruth Lee, Marianne VanDerMeulen, Arlene Glass; in-laws: Gayle Hoag, Patti Bouwman, and many extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland MI 49423. A time of visitation will be 2:00-2:45PM Thursday, prior to the service. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Moody Bible Institute or the American Legion Post #6.
