MELBOURNE (Reuters) – BHP Group’s pathway to net zero will not be linear and it requires significant effort to overcome organic growth and technology challenges, the company’s vice president for climate said on Thursday.
Carbon emissions from operations at the world’s biggest listed miner are set to see a “small increase” in 2024, Graham Winkelman told an investor briefing on Wednesday.
BHP is on track to reach its target of reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% from financial year 2020 levels. It has a 2050 goal to achieve net zero operational greenhouse gas emissions.
