Lonnie Nykerk, 62, entered into her heavenly home on June 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving children and devoted husband, Jeff. She was a woman of unparalleled strength, known for her positivity, sense of humor, compassionate spirit and ability to light up every room she entered.
Together, Lonnie and Jeff raised three daughters: Amber, Katie, and Alyssa. Family was the center of Lonnie’s life, and she dedicated herself to nurturing and supporting her daughters. Lonnie’s faith in Christ was a cornerstone of her life and she found comfort and strength in Him throughout her life’s journey. Her faith inspired her to be a loving friend and mentor to everyone she met. Lonnie had a gift for making others feel valued and cared for, and her kindness and compassion knew no bounds.
Professionally, Lonnie was known for her diligence and dedication. Besides her roles as a wife and mother, she worked at Castle Park and co-owned Cottage Corner, a store in downtown Holland, for many years alongside her sister, Jean. Her personal interests included spending time with loved ones, painting, decorating, antiquing, relaxing at the cottage, and savoring sunsets
Lonnie was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Koops, mother, Jeanette Koops, father-in-law, Floyd Nykerk, mother-in-law, Marlene Nykerk, brother-in-law, Cal Hoffman and sister-in-law, Carolyn Nykerk. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Nykerk; children; Amber and Christopher Flier, Katie Nykerk, Alyssa and Skylar Sale; granddaughters Eleanor and Olivia Flier; siblings; Darwin and Judy Koops, Linda Koops, Wesley and Glenda Koops, Jean Hoffman and Bill Buikema; brother-in-law; Marc Nykerk; sister-in-law; Tasha Nykerk as well as many nieces and nephews.
In honor of Lonnie’s diagnosis with Multiple System Atrophy and the wonderful care providers to her; memorial contributions may be given to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition or to Hospice of Holland.
Memorial services for Lonnie are planned for 10:00am Friday, June 21 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th Street, Holland, with Pastor Dean Slenk officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 5:00-8:00pm Thursday, June 20, also at the funeral home.
