TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 16, 2024) – A 32-year-old Coopersville man was hospitalized after crashing his motorcycle near Marne during the overnight hours on Sunday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke, the unnamed biker’s machine was seen by a passing deputy lying on the shoulder of the exit ramp from eastbound I-96 to Ironwood Drive (M-11) shortly after 4 AM. Looking more closely on the scene, the motorcyclist was spotted a short distance away lying in a ditch, and the machine was cold to the touch, indicating that the crash had occurred some time before deputies arrived.
While the man was taken to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of serious injuries, it was determined that the biker was traveling northbound on Ironwood, approaching Hayes Street, when he apparently failed to negotiate a curve. The machine skidded off the roadway, throwing its helmetless driver off.
The incident remains under investigation.
