ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 15, 2024) – A Zeeland couple in their 70’s was hospitalized on Friday afternoon following a crash southeast of Grand Haven.
No names were disclosed by Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, who was among first responders that were dispatched to the area of 120th Avenue and Winans Street around 4 PM. They found a Lexus that had been southbound rolled over into a ditch, and rescuers had to extricate the 75-year-old man driving the vehicle, along with a 73-year-old female passenger.
An investigation revealed that a northbound pickup truck, driven by a 20-year-old Grand Haven man, apparently was startled by stopped traffic in front of him and veered to the left to avoid rear ending a vehicle. He swerved across the centerline and struck the sedan, causing it to leave the roadway and end up in the ditch.
The apparent at-fault driver was not hurt, while the older couple was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
