HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 7, 2024) – It may be summer vacation for students, but the break from the classroom shouldn’t be a break from book learning, as two programs in Holland get underway on Monday.
A new Books & Blooms series debuts at Windmill Island Gardens. This bi-weekly series on Mondays through August 12th aims to entertain and educate youngsters with a 10 AM Story Time from Herrick District Library staffers, followed by hands-on activities including interactive stories and songs, while the children’s carousel, playground and garden will be open. The opening session will be hosted by the Zeeland Historical Society, featuring Miffy, a beloved Dutch rabbit drawn in the De Stijl style created by Dick Bruna in the 1950’s that was in cartoons, books and more in the Netherlands.
Speaking of the Herrick District Library, it’s Summer Reading Challenge also kicks off on Monday, with events at the main library on River Avenue, along with the branch off of Riley Street, and at Reader’s World and Bluestocking Bookshop. Crafts, photo ops, animals and bonus surprises are planned for the opener.
