ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 23, 2024) – The 2023 Community Health Needs Assessment was disclosed by the Healthy Ottawa coalition of medical facilities and non profits on Wednesday.
Among the findings of the survey of over 1,500 adults: Only seven percent of them were without health insurance, the lowest level in 12 years; obesity rates fell nearly seven percent since 2020; and just over 10 percent of adults didn’t do something physically active in their leisure time, down more than six percent in a three-year span. However, mental health issues continued to rise; access of health care remains a problem, especially for the uninsured; housing and childcare affordability concerns grew; and levels of marijuana, binge drinking and vaping are at high levels not seen since 2011.
Health care officials will use the data from this assessment to prioritize and develop strategic plans, monitor intervention measures’ effectiveness, and grow initiatives aimed at supporting public health policy. It will also be a part of developing the 2024 Healthy Ottawa Plan that will cover health needs over the next three years.
