ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 23, 2024) – A domestic dispute at a residence west of Allendale on Thursday morning turned violent.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of 96th Avenue near Winans Street around 8:45 AM on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 35-year-old man armed with a handgun and firing rounds at a 34-year-old woman and a child.
After bringing the tense situation under control, first aid was administered at the scene to the man, who had a knife wound, and to the woman, who had gunshot wounds. They were then transported to undisclosed “area hospitals” for treatment. Five children at the scene were not hurt, and other family members arrived to take care of them.
An investigation into the matter revealed that, during a domestic argument, the man had fired at least two rounds at the woman, and in an effort to protect her, a 16-year-old boy stepped in with a knife to prevent any further injury. The area was blocked off for about three hours, and no names were immediately disclosed.
Sparks said that there was apparently no threat to the community at large, and that all subjects have been accounted for. Once the man has been treated for his wound, he is expected to be taken to the Ottawa County Jail on charges related to this incident.
The case remains open, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
