Henry Jay Meppelink, 82, child of God, son of Gerrit and Johanna (Gruppen) Meppelink passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Henry was born in Borculo, Michigan, on December 13, 1941. Henry attended Holland Christian High School and served his country as a medic in the U.S. Army from 1960-1968. He met Anna Maria Vander Nat and they were married on June 20, 1964. Henry and Anna raised their sons in Zeeland and have been longtime members of North Street Christian Reformed Church. Henry served as a cadet leader for many years at North Street. Henry was also a fast-pitch softball player on the Borculo Garage Team. Henry worked for 16 years at John A. Van Den Bosch Feed Mill. Henry and Anna Maria worked in the family business since 1975. They became the owners in 1981 of what is now Great Lakes Window Coverings. Henry retired in 2004. Henry was preceded in death by his grandson Kyle Meppelink, brother Harvey Meppelink, in-laws: Duane Ten Broeke, Willard Warners, Barb Meppelink, Alvin Huizenga.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna Maria, their sons: Randall (Bonnie) Meppelink, James (Kimberly) Meppelink; grandchildren: Tony (Emily) Meppelink, Mitchell (Juli) Meppelink, Jessica (Gabe) Smith, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Hansen, Jason (Kayla) Meppelink; great-grandchildren who were all loved immensely: Alaina, Cooper, Brook, Gracie, Ansley, Isaiah, Jack, Autumn; sisters: Geneva Huizenga, Harriet Ten Broeke; in-laws: Marie Warners, Sue (James) Beltman, and many nieces and nephews.
Henry’s celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 10, 2024, at North Street CRC, 20 East Main Ave., Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be be 4:30-7:30 PM, Thursday, also at North Street CRC. Interment will be in Borculo Cemetery. Because Gerrit and Johanna didn’t have any money, Gerrit donated some land for Borculo Christian School to be built. There has been a strong Meppelink bond to this day. Memorial contributions may be made to Borculo Christian School.
