ALLENDALE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 3, 2024) – If one sees a swarm of first responders on Saturday just east of Grand Valley State University’s main campus in Allendale, along the Grand River, don’t be alarmed.
That’s the word from Ottawa County Emergency Management Director Lou Hunt, who has scheduled a Search and Rescue Exercise involving various law enforcement, fire rescue, and other teams. It’s a coordinated session in which aerial and ground resources, including canine units, will be looking for multiple missing persons, with crews going over challenging terrain in order to get to those persons.
It’s all staged, with no people actually in danger, and the general public is being asked to stay away from exercise participants, especially the police dogs, during the course of these activities, which begin at 10 AM. However, if someone does see something that may be considered unusual, they are asked to contact GVSU Public Safety at 616-331-3255.
