Phyllis Gambill, 95, of Holland, Michigan and formerly of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Sunday evening, April 28, 2024, of natural causes at the home of her daughter in Holland, Michigan.
Mrs. Gambill was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on November 6, 1928 to the late Fred Wingate Stultz and the late Cordelia May (Squires) Stultz. She attended Howe High School in Indianapolis and was a graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis.
She was married to the late Professor Emeritus Robert Arnold Gambill for 59 years and found great joy in the arts in West Lafayette where her children grew up. She was a member of her beloved Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Tippecanoe County Chamber Music Society, Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette, Lafayette Symphony Guild, and was an honorary lifetime member of Purdue Women’s Club. Her hobbies included oil-painting, playing the piano, and listening to the music of her children.
She is survived by her daughter, Chandra Lynn (Gambill) Hronchek of Holland, Michigan, her son, Robert Arnold Gambill II of Rosengarten, Germany, 6 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Robert Williams, her son-in-law, James A. Hronchek and her sister-in-law, Carol Graham.
There are no services or visitation planned at this time. Final arrangements are being handled by Dykstra Funeral Home in Holland and Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, Indiana. She will be interred at Eagle Creek Cemetery in Westfield, Indiana with a private family and friends gathering.
In lieu of flowers, her children suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland (270 Hoover Blvd. Holland, MI 49423) or to Matthew 25 Care & Share Soup Kitchen (612 Wabash Ave., Lafayette, IN 47905).
