Anna M. Simmons, age 92, of Hudsonville, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Medilodge of Holland.
Anna often said she could write a book about her life. She grew up in Germany during WWII, met an Army boy, got married, and moved to his home state of Oklahoma. They adopted 2 children. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and always had the nicest yard in the neighborhood. She also had a knack for growing the most beautiful roses. Anna was an excellent cook and was the consummate homemaker. Most importantly, she loved the Lord and was always awaiting his return. She lived a long life and and even though she was a very strong woman, she lost her battle with cancer and has now gone to be with her Lord. She is no longer suffering. May the angels wrap her in their wings and may God take care of her until we see her again.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Maria Bantele; sisters, Johanna, Maria, Berta, Sensie; a brother, Hans; and her son, John Simmons.
Anna is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Simmons and daughter, Carmen Simmons.
A private funeral mass is planned at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and burial will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, both in Grand Rapids. Arrangements are by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, Holland, and condolences may be left online at www.langelandsterenberg.com.
