HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 22, 2204) – If you see an increased police presence on Lake Macatawa this week, don’t be alarmed.
It won’t be because of any emergency situation, or even any advance preparation for the upcoming Tulip Time Festival. Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Knott, head of the department’s marine unit, explains what begins on Monday.
Besides the on-water work, slated for Tuesday at the Yacht Basin Marina, attendees will also attend classes on various aspects of law enforcement tactics and procedures at the county’s James Street building during this week-long seminar. As a veteran instructor for this event, Knott says that the biggest lesson these new officers has to learn may not come from books or apparatus.
There will be a final exam on Friday before attendees can earn the necessary certificates needed to work the waterways in Michigan.
