Howard “Howie” Welling, age 70, of Holland passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at his home.
Howie was born in Holland and graduated from West Ottawa High School. He was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church in Holland and more recently a member of Waypoint Community Church. He was a journeyman meat cutter at Meijer and later promoted to manager.
Howie enjoyed umpiring softball in the Holland City Church League for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Goldie (Lampen) Welling, a son Billy Welling, a sister Sharon Gilbert and Father and mother-in-law, Morrie and Peg James.
Howie is survived by his wife of 40 years, Debra, and children: Rachael (Bill) Gilmore of Zeeland, Tonya (Neil) Harrison of Reed City, and Marcy Hammond of Reed City; grandchildren: Connor, Taylor, Rylee, Max, and Morgan; sister: Irene (Craig) Nykamp of Mears, MI; brother: Warren (Linda) Welling of Memphis, TN; sisters-in-law: Carol (Bruce) Bowers of Holland and Amy (Dan) Huice of Schoolcraft, MI; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The celebration of Howie’s Life will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Waypoint Community Church, 3041 96th Avenue in Zeeland. Rev. Darren Anderson will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes-Northwood Chapel.
