Robert “Bob” Hop, age 86, of South Olive, entered into his Heavenly Home on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
Bob was born on October 11, 1937, in Holland, Michigan, to Gilbert and Alice (Baumann) Hop. Bob married Thelma Dykstra in 1956. They raised their children in downtown South Olive and Bob was a lifelong member of South Olive Christian Reformed Church.
Bob and Thelma lived lives filled with faith, love, joy, and kindness. They were married for 67 wonderful years until Thelma preceded him in death in November of 2023. Theirs was a love story that inspired all who knew them. Together, they created a warm and loving home, filled with laughter and memories. Thelma and Bob were also committed to helping raise funds for South Olive Christian School making pigs-in-the-blanket, and pies for South Olive CRC. They both worked diligently for the cause.
Bob Hop was also preceded in death by his son, Mike Hop in 2019; their great-grandson Ethan VerHage; and brothers June (Maxine) Hop, Sherwin Hop; in-laws: Harald Kronemeyer, and Jerry Logrippo.
In 1956, Bob started working at HEMCO Gage and fully retired from there in 2022. He enjoyed softball and coached a women’s softball team for many years and also played softball well into his sixties.
Bob’s legacy shines brightly through his large, closely-knit family. He is survived by his daughters: Kathy (Rick) Diemer, Kim (Dale) Walters; daughter-in-law, Brenda Hop; grandchildren: Shawn (Jodi) Diemer, Kelli (Andrew) Kapenga, Jessica (Brian) Kamminga, Melissa (Cornelius) Boyd, Stacy (Phil) Runner, Ashley (Ryan) VerHage, Adam (Kylie) Diemer, Tanya (Kevin) Kooiker, Bethany (Steve) Raak, Travis (Jilayne) Walters, Melinda (Joel) Kryger, Ryan (Angela Stegink) Walters, Kristopher (Michelle) Hop, Danyelle (Jeff) Roon, Mitchell (Samantha Tear) Hop; 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchild; siblings: Alverne (Arlene) Hop, Elaine (Neil) Jacobsen, Judith Kronemeyer; in-laws: Delores Hop, Mary (Jack) De Graff, Delwyn (Donna) Dykstra, Delores (Ed) DeVries, Steve (Cathy) Dykstra, as well as many extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, April 12, 2024, at South Olive Christian Reformed Church, 6425 North 120th Avenue, Holland, MI 49424. Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 PM, at South Olive CRC, and also 10:00-10:45 am prior to the funeral on Friday morning.
In the spirit of Bob & Thelma’s generosity, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to South Olive CRC or South Olive Christian School, in lieu of flowers.
