ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 18, 2024) – A couple of public hearings highlight Monday evening’s Zeeland City Council meeting.
The governing panel will hold such sessions ahead of votes on approving a Michigan Passport Grant Application with the state Department of Natural Resources for reconstructing Hoogland Park, which would require at least a 25% match by the local government of the project cost at $1.2 million, and approving a Commercial Rehabilitation Exemption Certificate for Wooden Nickel Properties to redevelop sites at 135 and 137 East Main Avenue into commercial space, a pedestrian passageway between Main Avenue and the city’s north downtown parking lot, and eight residential dwelling units in this three-floor mixed-used development.
Also on the meeting agenda are two proposed contracts with the Clarke Historical Library of Central Michigan University totaling nearly $62,000 for preserving microfilms, as well as digitizing and Internet hosting of all of the Zeeland Record publications from 1893 to the present day; along with giving approval of annual state liquor license requests for the seven entities that currently hold on and off premise allowances. During the 5:30 PM study session beforehand, city officials will be asking council members to consider a proposed half-price rate for non-profits to rent city park facilities.
An online link to the meeting agenda and supporting documents is here. The study session and 7 PM business meeting will be in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.).
