Hope College’s Brian Morehouse ’91 has been chosen as the MIAA Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
The honor is voted on by MIAA coaches and is based on the achievements of coaches both during regular-season and postseason competition.
Morehouse guided the Flying Dutch to a fourth consecutive regular-season title this season with a 15-1 league record. Hope captured the crown outright after earning co-championships the past two seasons.
The Flying Dutch also reached the MIAA Tournament final for the seventh consecutive season and finished runner-up.
Morehouse coached three student-athletes who earned All-MIAA honors: Most Valuable Player and first-team guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / Midland HS), first-team forward Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) and second-team guard Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City).
“It is a great honor to receive MIAA Coach of the Year because of the strength of the coaches and the teams in our league,” Morehouse said. “With any coach-of-the-year honor, the credit goes to the assistant coaches and players for their important roles in the team’s success.”
Morehouse leads the nationally-ranked Flying Dutch into their 13th Sweet Sixteen appearance during his tenure this week.
Hope (26-3) plays at nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the third round on Friday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. Central.
Morehouse owns a career record of 711-97. This is his 28th season as head coach.
Earlier this season, Morehouse became the fastest NCAA basketball coach, in any level or gender, to reach 700 career wins (795 games).
