Dorothy was born in Holland on November 30, 1925, to Benjamin & Henrietta (Klein) Kole. She graduated from Holland High and married Walter Welch. Walter and Dorothy raised four children together in Zeeland. Dorothy worked for many years at the Howard Miller Clock Company. After 48 years of marriage Walter preceded her in death in 1993. A while later, she met Willis Engelsman and they were married in 1995. Dorothy and Willis were members of Forest Grove Reformed Church. Sadly in 2004, she was widowed again when Willis died. Dorothy moved to the Atrium at Royal Park and enjoyed her time living there. Everyone who met Dorothy was greeted with a smile, and she was a great inspiration to all.
She was also preceded in death by her son Terry Welch, son-in-law Jay Groenewoud, grandson Todd Welch, sister and brother-in-law Marilyn & Melvin Hirdes, brother-in-law Robert & Wilma Welch, step-sons Arthur Pater and James Rodanhisler.
She is survived by her children: Linda Groenewoud, Ronald & Sharon Welch, Kris Wesseldyke & Tim Theisen, daughter-in-law Susan Welch, grandchildren: Patty Mattila, Shelly & Craig Bundy, Rebecca and Robert Palmer, Brian Culver, Robert & Dillon Wesseldyke, Marcy & Justin Kolean, Amanda and Ross Schipper; great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren: Jennifer Welch, Jeff and Lindsey Welch, Derek Bundy, Sarah Burkel, Anthony Burkel, Noah Burkel, Sabrina Palmer, Daniel Wesseldyke, Milaya Kolean, Pierson Kolean, Tanner Schipper, Blake Schipper; step-children: Delores Pater, Nancy Rodanhisler, Linda & Bill Raterink, Sandy & Arlan Boersen, Wayne Engelsman, Brian Engelsman; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Forest Grove Reformed Church, 1630 32nd Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. Pastor Doug Hoeve will officiate. Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Tuesday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.
