Grand Valley State split a doubleheader with visiting Purdue Northwest last night. Nicole Kamin had 20 points as the Lakers won the women’s opener, 92-53. Kalil Whitehead tallied 17 points, but the Pride needed a layup at the buzzer by Brendan Temple to take the men’s nightcap, 67-66. GVSU’s teams welcome the Parkside Rangers to the Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale tomorrow afternoon.
In state major-college basketball last night, Detroit fell to 0-21 with an 87-71 loss at Milwaukee, and Oakland was beaten at Green Bay, 69-59. This evening, Michigan State is at Wisconsin.

The Red Wings scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the second period, and Alex Lyon made that advantage stand up with a 30-save performance, in a 3-0 shutout of the visiting Philadelphia Flyers last night. Detroit hosts the Vegas Golden Knights at Little Caesars Arena tomorrow evening, with broadcast time at 7:45 PM on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
Connor McDavid had two goals and an assist, while Calvin Pickard stopped 27 shots, as the Edmonton Oilers blanked the Blackhawks last night, 3-0. Chicago skates in Calgary against the Flames tomorrow evening.

Before more than 7800 fans at Van Andel Arena last night, the Rise won their inaugural game in the Pro Volleyball Federation with a straight-set win over the visiting Columbus Fury, as Claire Chaussee led the way with 21 kills and two service aces. Grand Rapids returns to action next Friday evening in Atlanta against the Vibe.
