OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 23, 2024) – It didn’t take long for Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker to name a new top aide.
Six days after Valerie Weiss announced her pending retirement after six years as undersheriff, Kempker disclosed on Tuesday afternoon that Sergeant Eric DeBoer has been promoted to the number two position in the department. DeBoer has risen from the reserve ranks in 1999 to a road patrol deputy two years later; entered the detective bureau in 2014, and two years ago, became a road patrol sergeant.
“Eric has been instrumental in many committees, project planning and implementation through the years at the Sheriff’s Office. Eric has demonstrated a strong understanding of the agency and its related responsibilities. Throughout Eric’s career with the agency, Eric has always displayed the talents, abilities, and skill level for this important leadership role.” – Sheriff Steve Kempker.
DeBoer will begin his new responsibilities on March 3rd, four days after Weiss’ retirement goes into effect.
