Darryl was born in Holland March 1, 1947 to John and Donna (TerHaar) Raterink, and was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Zeeland High School.
He bravely served his country as a Military Police Officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his injuries in combat. After his discharge, Darryl served the local community as a Patrolmen in the Holland Department of Public Safety for 32 years prior to retiring.
In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, spending many weekends on his bass boat at Baseline Lake catching plenty of fish with his custom lures.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Judi on November 18, 2023.
Darryl is survived by his 2 sons Jeff (Tammy) Raterink and Matt (Lakkana) Raterink; Grandchildren, Nathan, Isabel, and Lyndsey; many extended family and friends.
At his request, cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later time.
Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
