HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 14, 2024) – No time is a good time for a fire, and a blaze amidst wintry weather conditions bring about a different type of challenge for first responders.
Such was the case on Sunday afternoon, when Holland Department of Public Safety Fire Operations crews were dispatched just before 1 PM to the Addington Place of Lakeshore Vista complex, off of West 40th Street between Ottawa and South Washington Avenue. A blaze had broken out involving cooking equipment in the kitchen of Building 1 at that assisted living facility, and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames. As they were ventilating smoke from the structure, AMR responders assisted Public Safety officers in guiding 30 residents and nine staffers out safely into temporary quarters.
No injuries were reported among the residents, staffers or first responders. A dollar estimate of damage sustained in the incident wasn’t immediately determined.
