Deborah Troutman-Immink (Debbie) passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 8, 2024, at home in the company of her loving husband of 27 years, Steve, and daughter Rebecca Rios, as well as Hospice Care.
Debbie was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 21, 1952, raised in Hartford, Michigan before moving to Holland in 1974. She is survived by her son John (Tara) Dykstra of Cadillac and daughter Rebecca (Jose) Rios of Holland from a previous marriage to Tom Dykstra, along with 3 granddaughters, Olivia Vaughan of Mesick, Elizabeth (Wendell) Collins of Kalkaska, Daisy Rios of Holland, and 3 grandsons, Tomas Troutman-Immink of Holland, Alejandro (Ashlyn) Rios of Norton Shores, and John Lee Dykstra of Delphi, Indiana; as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Martin A. Troutman Jr. in 1984, and mother, Dorothy (Troutman) Kusmack in 2016.
Debbie is also survived by her brothers, David C. (Delberta) Troutman from Reed City, Martin A. Troutman III from East Lansing, Timothy S. (Rhonda) Troutman from Allegan, and her sister Marcia A. (Mike) Thompson from Buelah, a special sister-in-law Jeanne Troutman, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Debbie met Steve at Lakewood Photo where she worked. His job at the time required him to drop off film to be developed each workday morning and pick up the developed pictures in the afternoons. From there began a budding romance which led them to marry October 7, 1996. In fact, what caught Steve’s attention is when she said, “I can’t wait for football season to start.” He knew then she was a keeper. She enjoyed cheering for the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and the Michigan Wolverines.
Shortly thereafter they moved to Greenfield, Indiana where they lived for 24 years. They attended Brandywine Church and Evangel Christian Church. They also had a house and pet-sitting business serving many clients. As Debbie’s health declined, they decided to move back “home” to Michigan, where they lived in Kalamazoo for a year and then moved to Holland in 2022.
Debbie’s hobbies included photography, travel, and painting. She had 68,000+ pictures on her phone, not to mention bins of printed photographs. She has traveled to Europe 11 times, hosting many exchange students from various countries. In her later years, painting became her passion, often painting with Rebecca as they made up for lost time.
Debbie was a member of a site called Couch-Surfing, where she and Steve hosted several people looking for a place to stay on their journeys. She also used Couch-Surfing to find places to stay while traveling to Europe.
When she would meet someone new, she always wanted to know everything about that person. To this day, until she couldn’t anymore, she loved interacting with the hospice nurses, aides, social worker, and volunteers.
A Celebration of Life service to honor Debbie will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Westshore Christian Church in Holland. Feel free to wear something green, as that was her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Debbie may be made to Hospice of Holland.
