GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 3, 2023) – It’s considered by many to be tough enough to walk out of the Gun Lake Casino as a winner, but for a 26-year-old Hopkins man, an effort to get money out of that Wayland Township gaming house by illegal means proved to be just as unfruitful.
On Wednesday, Jordan Lewis Cook was ordered to serve four months in federal prison, with two years of supervised release afterwards, and to pay over $84,000 in restitution during a sentencing hearing at US District Court in Grand Rapids. According to prosecutors, the accused, shortly after being hired by the casino in September of 2021, started taking money from jammed cash-out kiosks on the gaming floor, absconding with over $100,000 over a 15-month period. An internal casino audit, along with security surveillance video footage, indicated Cook’s guilt, and his personal bank records reflected a large influx of cash deposits around the same time that the casino’s coffers had been lightened by his actions.
