HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 3, 2023) – The Holland City Council has a relatively light agenda on Wednesday night for its first business meeting of the New Year.
Among the items on the consent list that won’t be discussed in detail unless requested by the governing panel or a member of the attending public are: Placing contractual oversight of operations at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place with the City Manager’s office instead of the Holland Civic Center Place Board, which would be in line with all other municipal contracts; approving the purchase of two Toyota hybrid vehicles from Crown Motors for detective use by the Department of Public Safety Police Services division, at a total cost of just over $69,000; and to waive normal purchasing rules and approve an expenditure of over $26,000 to retain Hope College’s Frost Center for Data and Research for conducting a biannual 2024 Resident Survey.
As for regular agenda items, Council will be asked to convert a municipal accountant position from part time to full time, as the city is about to implement a new finance software system, and to approve the mayoral appointment of former Lakeshore Home Builders Association Executive Officer Sue Schurman to the Holland Civic Center Board, as she would complete the last two and a half years of the term of Michael Schultheis, as he became ineligible upon being sworn in as a new at-large member of the City Council.
A one-hour “Coffee with Council” session, for public input into the budget-making process for Fiscal 2025, is slated to begin at 5 PM in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.) before the 6 PM business meeting. An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
