Giorgia Cooley, after 103 well lived years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
Giorgia was born in Livorno, Italy on March 10, 1920, to Alberto and Amelia Mencacci. Giorgia’s strong Italian heritage was an integral part of her identity, and she cherished her Italian culture and traditions throughout her long life. While serving in a hospital during World War 2, she met her future husband, George. Together, Giorgia and George embarked on a new chapter in the United States, where they raised 2 children and built a beautiful life, living in Chicago, Illinois, Sun City West, Arizona, and ultimately, Holland, Michigan.
Giorgia’s deep faith and service to others were hallmarks of her life, symbolized in her priorities as she lived her days; additionally, her cheerful manner brought happiness to all those she met.
Giorgia’s work ethic and energy were tireless, characterized by her accomplishments, both within and outside the home.
She is survived by her son, Robert and Mary Cooley; grandchildren: Catherine and Jason Genta, AnnMarie and Joseph Kearney, Margaret and Zvjezdan Lice, and Philip Cooley, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Emanuel and Patrick.
Giorgia was preceded in death by her husband, George Cooley; her daughter Linda Cooley; and her sister and brother-in-law, Tosca and Ruben Bugge.
Funeral Services for Giorgia will be at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1340 E 8th St, Holland, MI 49423. There will be a time of visitation at church beginning at 11:00 AM prior to the service on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be given to Resthaven. Giorgia’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff at Resthaven for the excellent care given over the past several years.
