SPARTA TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 1, 2024) – New Year’s Eve celebrations at a residence just east of the Ottawa County Line on Monday morning went out of control, leading to the hospitalization of three men, one of whom was taken into custody.
No names were given by the Kent County Sheriff’s Office as deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the area of Kenowa Avenue near Armock Drive/Harding Street around 5 AM on a report of a violent altercation. One man had wielded a machete, started to break windows, and attacked attendees of a party. Two other men had tried to subdue to suspect but sustained minor wounds as a result.
When deputies arrived, they took the suspect into custody, and he, along with the two wounded men, were transported to an undisclosed “area hospital” for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, while detectives interviewed several other witnesses at the scene. Once treated at the hospital, the suspect will spend the rest of the holiday weekend in the Kent County Jail.
The matter remains under investigation, with charges pending.
