OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 14, 2023) – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies will be on high alert for drunk drivers in the coming weeks.
The office is participating in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” heightened enforcement period which runs from tomorrow, December 15th, through January 1st. Last year, around 40-percent of fatal accidents in the county involved either alcohol or drugs.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Knott believes that impaired motoring could be rightly considered an epidemic.
Funding for the extra police patrols come from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which are then funnel in Michigan by the state Office of Highway Safety Planning.
