LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 30, 2023) – Nearly $600,000 in Michigan Strategic Fund dollars are headed to two entities that are planning expansion efforts along the Lakeshore totaling around $11 million.
The Governor’s Office announced on Thursday morning that P&THE Manufacturing will use a $428,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant to help in the acquisition of Spring Lake-based Turbo Components Incorporated, which had filed for bankruptcy protection this past April. The new owners want to pour $2.6 million into the aluminum casting and machine manufacturer that had produced engine components for a suburban Detroit auto supplier, and plans to increase capacity at two northwest Ottawa County sites by adding work from its own existing customers to create 107 jobs.
Meanwhile, a $168,000 Micro Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant is headed to Walinga USA to expand its operations in Wayland, purchasing an adjacent parcel to its existing facility in order to build a new structure, as well as renovate that existing facility. The pneumatic transportation systems and feed trailers builder for the livestock and agriculture industry is pouring $8.3 million into this project, and will increase its workforce by about two thirds of its current 53 person staff.
Both Spring Lake Township and Leighton Township are contributing 50 percent tax abatements to the companies in their respective communities.
