HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 30, 2023) – An overlooked aspect of the Clean Energy Future Package that Governor Whitmer signed into law this week could come back to bite Michiganders, according to some critics.
At issue is the state override of all local ordinances involving the zoning of land for clean energy purposes such as the location of solar panels and wind turbines. Allegan County Board Chairman Jim Storey addressed this during a Wednesday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.”
The Holland Republican believes that this is the latest step in Lansing’s efforts to centralize government in Michigan.
Under the new law, determination of where solar panels and wind turbines can be located is now in the hands of the Michigan Public Service Commission.
