OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 7, 2023) – Communities on opposite ends of Ottawa County may have been victimized by a purse snatcher.
According to Sheriff’s Detective Sergeant Jeremy Baum, the pattern of the crimes of this past Friday evening in Holland and Georgetown townships were not only similar in nature, but happed about an hour apart, indicating that it was a group of persons who may be wanted for questioning. Baum didn’t say exactly where in two of the county’s most populous communities the crimes occurred, between 7:20 and 8:10 PM, but in each instance, the victim had just finished shopping at a grocery store and was putting the bags into her vehicle when one man grabbed the purse out of the untended cart. He then ran into a older-model silver sedan that was parked nearby, occupied by other men in masks, and the perpetrators fled the scene. No other descriptions of the suspects or of the vehicle were given by the sergeant, and the victims were shaken but unhurt after these incidents.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the non-emergency Ottawa County Central Dispatch number at 800-249-0911, or go through Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
