Led by an MIAA Most Valuable Runner performance, the Hope College women’s cross country team put six runners on All-MIAA teams for the 2023 season.
The top eight finishers at the MIAA Championships make the first team. The next eight finishers comprise the second team.
Senior Rebecca Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd) headlined the Flying Dutch’s group of honorees as the 10th MIAA Most Valuable Runner in program history.
A civil engineering major, Markham clocked the winning 6K time at the MIAA Championships of 21 minutes, 3.8 seconds. This is Markham’s second All-MIAA distinction.
Senior Olivia Quillan and Maddy Struck joined Markham on the All-MIAA First Team. Janie DeGroot, Molly Durow and Libby Gorman made the All-MIAA Second Team.
Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) placed fifth at the league championships with a run of 21:36.7. This is her second All-MIAA recognition.
Quillan (Grandville, Michigan / Calvin Christian) took sixth at the MIAA Championships by posting a run of 21:40.5.
Gorman (Traverse City, Michigan / St. Francis) finished 10th at conference with a time of 22:01.7. This is her second All-MIAA honor.
Durow (Glenview Hills, Illinois / Glenbrook South) placed 11th at the league meet. This is the elementary education major’s first All-MIAA distinction.
DeGroot (Northville, Michigan / Northville) took 15th at conference with a run of 22:25.1. This is the chemistry major’s first All-MIAA award.
