Sidney Hibma, 88, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home.
Sidney was born in Holland, on August 19, 1935, to Rev. Tiede and Elizabeth (Bartels) Hibma. Sidney graduated from Holland High School and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His brother Peter Hibma was killed in combat during the Korean War. He married Edna Martin in 1959 and they raised their children on the north side of Holland and were members of Harlem Reformed Church. Sid was a founding volunteer firefighter for Port Sheldon Township Fire Department and served for 42 years. He worked at HEMCO Gauge for 45 years prior to his retirement. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years Edna, and his other siblings Carolyn Veldhoff, Bernice Hibma, Lena Hibma, and Bernard Hibma.
He is survived by his children: Steven and Suzanne Hibma, Sandra and Thomas Sokolowski; grandchildren: Todd and Cindy Davis, Brent and Amy Davis, Steven and Jillian Davis, Travis and Joanne Lang, Levi Wall, Lisa and Chris Dekker, Jake and Holly Sokolowski, David and Jen Sokolowski, Andrew and Cirstin Sokolowski; 21 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Shirley Hibma, and many extended family members.
A service to honor the faith and life of Sidney Hibma will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 3, 2023, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland MI 49423. Visitation will be 12:00 noon-12:45 pm, Friday, prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
