OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 24, 2023) – A 17-year-old Allendale man will face juvenile charges stemming from an April crash that led to the death of a 26-year-old Allendale woman.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks announced on Tuesday that counts of Reckless Driving Causing Death and Reckless Driving Causing Injury will be filed against the man, whose name will not be disclosed because of his juvenile status. He was driving a southbound pickup on 64th Avenue on April 11th that collided with an eastbound sedan on Pierce Street that had stopped for a stop sign and then pulled into the path of the truck.
Initially, deputies had blamed the collision on a 27-year-old Holland woman that was driving the sedan. “However, after thorough crash investigation and reconstruction, it was determined that the (pickup) was exceeding the speed limit and was, in fact, at fault for the crash,” Sparks said.
The collision caused the death at the scene of Madeleine Martin, who was one of two passengers in the sedan. The other passenger, also a 26-year-old Allendale woman, along with the driver suffered minor injuries that required hospitalization, while the pickup driver was treated at the scene for bumps and bruises.
