She was born in Detroit and attended Pershing High School. She was employed at Kemper Insurance in Southfield, MI where she worked her way up from typist to becoming the first female workman’s compensation supervisor in the company, overseeing a large department that was previously male dominated. Gloria lived in Howell until 1998. While there, she birthed sheep, raised chickens, and mowed hay on a tractor. All while being a loving grandmother and incredible mother to her sons. Gloria and her husband retired to Lakeview, Arkansas. She moved to the Holland area in 2010 after the death of her husband where she was the spark in the room and made many friends. Her laughter and joy for life will be tremendously missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and James Mills, her sister Jeanette (Mills) Kadykowski, husband Charles Finlayson and son Chuck Finlayson.
She is survived by her sons Richard (Kathleen) and Gerald (Sharon), seven grandchildren (Andrea, Charles, Steven, Brittany, Grant, Scottie, and Kara), and seven great-grandchildren (Ethan, Owen, Corbin, Andi, Lucas, Griffin, and Charlotte)
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held on November 4th, 2023 from 11-2 at Boatwerks, Holland, MI for family and friends. Please RSVP your intention to attend at Finla34@yahoo.com by October 20.
