LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 13, 2023) – Three area projects, including the proposed permanent outdoor community ice skating park in Holland, are getting a financial boost from Lansing.
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced on Thursday that $800,000 from the second round of funding from the state’s Revitalization and Placemaking Program will be headed to the City of Holland. It will go towards the $8 million price tag for constructing the skating surface at Window on the Waterfront Park, consisting of a large man-made frozen pond, connect to an ice track or “ribbon” looping through the area north of East 6th Street.
City Manager Keith Van Beek and his staff briefed Holland City Council members on the status of the project on Wednesday night, saying that some unforeseen issues involving the land designated for the project has held things up.
Among the other projects sharing in $6.1 million from this program is $112,500 to the City of Fennville for a downtown amphitheater, and $160,000 to the City of Allegan for improvements to Mahan Park. A total of 17 initiatives from among 41 submitted in the region earned these competitive grants, the money from which came from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
