HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 3, 2023) – A week to spotlight municipal utilities is underway.
Public Power Week through Oct. 7 is an effort by the American Public Power Association to raise awareness of public utilities that supply electricity to around 49 million nationwide. Three of those utilities are along the Lakeshore, including the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power, the Zeeland Board of Public Works, and the Holland Board of Public Works, whose general manager is Dave Koster.
All three of these utilities staged coloring contests for youngsters in first through fourth grades that ended on September 22nd, and in Holland, there is an open house at the Holland Energy Park on Thursday evening.
The Holland event is free, but registration through Eventbrite is required, a link to which is here.
The Zeeland BPW is offering free copies of the youth book “If I Were a Lineworker” at its Customer Service Center (350 E. Washington Ave.), while the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power is providing information on a proposal for the November 7th General Election ballot that would decide whether the utility would continue to have its own independent governing board, or to be guided by the Grand Haven City Council.
