OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 3, 2023) – A national emergency alert test will blare out across the US on Wednesday.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, every TV, radio and cell phone will be interrupted with an emergency message at 2:20 PM Eastern time, similar to that of an Amber Alert or warnings issued by the National Weather Service, and is scheduled to last approximately one minute. Federal emergency management coordinators say that they need to make sure the system is still an effective way to warn Americans about emergencies.
While most people will either be annoyed by the interruption to their daily routine, or dismiss it out of hand, they shouldn’t ignore this opportunity to be prepared for trouble this coming winter, according to Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker.
Kempker added that this nationwide emergency message should override all manual muting efforts.
