OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 27, 2023) – It was another long night for Ottawa County Commissioners at the Fillmore Street Complex on Tuesday evening.
Before a capacity crowd, the board approved on an 8-3 margin the Fiscal 2024 budget. The biggest bone of contention in the $264.1 million spending plan was a $4.8 million allocation for the Department of Public Health, which was a cut from over six million in the current budget approved last year before the current governing panel took office in January.
Board Chairman Joe Moss of Hudsonville justified the vote.
The meeting took more than seven hours to complete due to lengthy public comment sessions, as well as discussion on three amendments put forward by Holland Democrat Doug Zylstra, all of which were voted down.
