POLKTON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 27, 2023) – A 30-year-old Muskegon man lost his life on Wednesday morning following a two-vehicle crash south of Coopersville.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the 15 mile marker of westbound I-96 just before 10 AM. That was where a westbound SUV was rear-ended by a westbound sedan, causing it to veer off of the road and overturn. Despite efforts to extricate that driver by rescue workers, the motorist was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office. A 28-year-old Muskegon woman driving the sedan, with her three-year-old daughter in a child restraining seat, were not injured.
No names were initially disclosed as the crash forced deputies to block off westbound I-96 for several hours. The incident remains under investigation.
