HOLLAND, MI (WHTC AM/FM) Tulip Time is inviting the community (individuals, families, and organizations) to be a part of a community-sourced public art project named “Pedals in Bloom.” Community members are encouraged to decorate bicycles and bike parts to create temporary works of art that will be on display throughout downtown Holland during the festival.
Lorma Freestone is with Tulip Time- She says they aren’t just looking for you to paint a bicycle but to go all out creating a work of ART. “What we really want is for people to rethink the whole idea of a bicycle. Maybe they can take it apart…put it back together in some sort of crazy sculptural way. Just go CRAZY with their ideas.”.
Freestone says applications are Due October 20th and Tulip Time will supply 1 bike (and some bike parts) for each accepted submission as well as a base on which to attach their finished work of art. Tulip Time will create a walking tour map of the bicycle sculptures and there will be a “scavenger hunt” as well as a People‘s Choice vote feature for visitors to participate in during the festival. The creator of the winning sculpture in People’s Choice vote will win $500.
Details, inspiration, and submission forms are available on Tulip Time’s web site: https://www.tuliptime.com/pedals-bloem-2024 . Submission Forms and concept drawings are due October 20, 2023. Finished sculptures will be due April 15-18, 2024.
