Delores Jane Schuetz was born on December 13, 1934. “Jane” gave up her struggle with dementia on September 2, 2023. Jane was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Lena and Eugene Reynolds. She was the youngest of 3 girls. She attended high school in New Castle and upon graduation, she attended Thiel College where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Medical Technology. She was the first woman in her family to complete college.
During her college years, she worked as a life-guard at the college swimming pool. After graduating, she went to work in the medical lab at Jameson Hospital in New Castle. There she met her future husband Jim Schuetz, who she was to for married 19 years.
In 1965, they moved to Midland, Michigan. Jane worked at Dow Chemical in the Toxicology lab, where she tested the safety of new materials. She did that work for over 20 years and then wrote Material Safety Data sheets for Dow until her retirement in 1996.
Jane gave birth to and raised 4 children: Thomas (Cindy) Schuetz, Lisa (Joseph) Wagner, Kathleen (Brian) Alfonson and Greg (Diane) Schuetz. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Whitney Antor, Justin Schuetz, Sierra Schuetz, Albert Alfonson, Maria Alfonso, Max Wagner and Christian Schuetz. Jane was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Gabe Antor, Mia Antor and Axle Schuetz. She loved her nieces and nephews too: Jim (Carol) Roberts, Debi Roberts and Barbie (Doug) Feil.
In her retirement years, she was an avid bicyclist and a member of the Midland Senior’s Bicycle Club. Jane made wonderful quilts and was an amazing cook.
Jane (Reynolds) Schuetz was an outspoken feminist and participated in “women’s liberation” rallies in the 1970s. Her life was dedicated to advancing the science that helped people and liberating people from sexism and racism.
