UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 3, 2023) – Weather conditions should be absolutely ideal across Michigan for the end of the summer vacation season on Monday.
The spotlight event is the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk, in which the span that connects the upper and lower peninsulas will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6:30 AM to 12 Noon. According to James Lake of the Mackinac Bridge Authority, around 26,000 participated in the walk last year, and more may be expected on Monday.
Closer to the Lakeshore, the Labor Day Truck Parade begins at 9:15 AM from the Miller-Knoll parking lot in Zeeland, and the 75 vehicles involved will take about 45 minutes to trek to the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place parking lots in downtown Holland, according to one of the organizers Shannon Yanek.
The event is more than just a promenade of all sorts of big rigs.
Also on Monday, it’s the Blue Star Bridge Walk in Saugatuck-Douglas at 9:30 AM. In the Detroit area, the Labor Day Parade downtown returns after a three-year hiatus, while the Detroit Jazz Festival and the Michigan State Fair in suburban Novi wind down its weekend-long activities.
